Sungreen Cloud Classroom | Requirements for isolation in the IMDG rule
HI~
Here we are again!
Let's talk about this article
In the IMDG Rules
Requirements for isolation ~
I'd like to present one
Obscure quarantine table
Figure 1 General isolation table in IMDG rules
Let's first interpret what the "*", "x" and the numbers "1, 2, 3, 4" in the above table represent respectively:
The first horizontal and vertical rows/columns of the isolation table correspond to the hazardous classes of the two dangerous goods;
"*" means that the two dangerous goods are explosives and need to consult the special isolation table for explosives;
"x" means that there is no general separation requirement for the two dangerous goods, but check the List of dangerous Goods for special separation provisions in column 16b;
The numbers "1, 2, 3, 4" respectively represent the isolation requirements for the storage of these two types of dangerous goods in package form:
"1" means "far away";
"2" stands for "isolation";
"3" stands for "isolation by an entire cabin or cargo hold";
"4" stands for "longitudinal isolation of an entire cabin or cargo hold in between";
TIPS:
If the UN number of dangerous goods has a primary and secondary risk, it is necessary to consider the isolation requirements of the primary and secondary risks at the same time when mixing. If the isolation requirements of the secondary risk are higher than the isolation requirements of the primary risk, the isolation requirements of the secondary risk should be isolated in accordance with the isolation requirements of the secondary risk.
If you understand this picture, can you master the quarantine requirements for dangerous goods?
There are still many situations that need to be considered comprehensively. In fact, there is a recommended isolation determination process in IMDG. Let's turn to the book:
Figure 2 Isolation flow diagram in IMDG rules
After reading the flow chart, we can come up with the basic process for determining the isolation requirements:
01 Confirm whether the goods are exempt from the general quarantine requirements
There are four common types of exemptions to quarantine requirements:
1. Dangerous goods that are composed of the same substance but have different water contents and are classified into different categories, such as sodium sulfide:
FIG. 3 Sodium Sulfide Class 4.2 UN1385 example diagram
FIG. 4 Example diagram of sodium sulfide Class 8 UN1849
(b) substances belonging to different classes but which have been scientifically proven to come into contact with each other without causing dangerous reactions;
3. Goods shipped in limited quantities and exempted quantities;
4. Substances in category 8 and belonging to packaging Classes II and III are supposed to be separated from each other in accordance with column 16b of the List of Dangerous Goods, but may be transported in the same or different packages within the same cargo transport assembly if the following conditions are met.

Figure 6 Specification in IMDG 7.2.6.1
02 Check the List of Dangerous Goods for special isolation provisions in column 16b, as shown below:
Figure 7 Column 16b of the List of Dangerous Goods
As shown in Figure 7, Class 4.2 UN1382 anhydrous potassium sulfide, or potassium sulfide, contains less than 30% of crystalline water Isolation class: SGG18(base), the special isolation code for this product is: SG35, isolation requirements: "isolation" from SGG1-acids;
TIPS:
• Isolation code refers to the special isolation requirements of the UN goods. If there is no isolation code in Column 16b of the UN, there is no special isolation requirement for the goods;
• Isolation category refers to the category of dangerous goods to which the chemical properties of the UN goods belong, IMDG has a total of 18 isolation categories;
Figure 8 Isolation class code specified in IMDG
03 If there is no special isolation rule in STEP2, refer to Figure 1 for isolation. If there is, refer to Figure 1 for isolation according to the strictest rule to confirm isolation.
Have you got the confirmation process of dangerous goods isolation requirements?
Well, this is also a period full of dry goods, the business has specialized, safe delivery is no small matter, the operation step by step need to be careful, please rest assured that the goods entrusted to Sungreen Logistics!
