Walmart launched cross-border container shipping services from China to the United States for e-commerce customers
According to several foreign media reports, the global retail giant Walmart has begun to provide container shipping services for customers in the field of e-commerce.
Recently, Walmart Cross Border (WCB) service has been opened to e-commerce sellers on the Walmart platform. "We recently announced our Walmart Cross-border B2B Shipping Solution, which means that Walmart Marketplace sellers can ship from China to the Walmart Logistics Services (WFS) network in the United States," said Scott Humanek, head of Walmart.
Walmart stressed that for now, the service is only available to partners who produce goods in China and can ship full boxes to selected ports, including Yantian, Shanghai and Ningbo.
According to Walmart's website, the sea freight service is provided by WMSC, a logistics company owned by Walmart, which currently holds non-vessel carrier (NVOCC) and freight forwarder certifications.
Once the containers are ready in China, they are loaded onto container ships at Walmart's contracted freight rates. When containers arrive in the U.S., Walmart's logistics department ships the goods directly to its distribution centers.
Walmart says the advantage of this service is that goods can be delivered to customers more quickly.
It is worth noting that during the epidemic in 2021, in order to reduce the pressure on the supply chain, Walmart has joined the ranks of its own charter ships to transport containers, but the company did not disclose the specific details of the charter business at the time.
At that time, in addition to Walmart, including the Home Depot, Amazon and other large American cargo owners, are also under the pressure of the global supply chain crisis, their own transportation, but this is only an "extraordinary means" in "extraordinary times".
