Taiwan's three major shipping companies, Evergreen Shipping, Yangming Shipping and Wanhai Shipping, have recently announced their results for the first half of 2024. During the reporting period, Evergreen Shipping achieved operating revenue of approximately NT $194.967 billion (about US $6.113 billion), an increase of 45% over the same period last year. Net income attributable to owners of the parent company was approximately NT $46.841 billion (US $1.469 billion), an increase of 362%.

For the market prospects, Evergreen Shipping general manager Wu Guanghui previously said that the Red Sea crisis caused a decline in ship turnover, which directly affected the container turnover rate. Yangming Shipping, another large ship company, reported operating revenue of about NT $96.39 billion (US $3.022 billion) in the first half of the year, up 34% from a year earlier. Net income attributable to owners of the parent company was approximately NIS 23.27 billion (approximately US $730 million), an increase of 612% year-over-year.
For the performance, Yangming shipping explained: "The shipping market is hot in the first half of the year, the cargo volume and freight rate rose, Yangming Shipping's overall profit performance in the first half of the year was better than the same period last year."

In addition, the consolidated revenue of Wan Hai Shipping in the first half of the year was NT $65.78 billion (about US $2.06 billion), an increase of 31%. Net income after tax was NT $16.19 billion (US $510 million), compared with a loss of NT $4.46 billion (US $140 million) a year earlier.
Xie Fulong, general manager of Wanhai Shipping, previously said in analyzing the prospects of the consolidation market that the spillover effect of the lack of ships and cabins has spread to more routes, and if the imbalance between supply and demand cannot be alleviated in the short term, the freight rate will be supported.
