Canada, an American pawn, announced that it would impose a 100% tariff on Chinese-made electric cars
Reported on the 26th, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced on the same day that since October 1 this year, it will impose 100% tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles; Starting October 15, a 25% tariff will also be imposed on steel and aluminum products made in China.

Canada has announced that it will impose a 100% tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles

Canada's Ministry of Finance said the new tariffs will come into effect on October 1 and will apply to electric vehicles in China, including passenger cars, trucks, buses and vans. The steel and aluminum tariffs take effect in two weeks.

CBC said that "this move follows the measures of the United States", because the US President's national security adviser Sullivan unexpectedly appeared at the Canadian government's annual cabinet retreat on the 25th, and made a speech, asking the Canadian side to reach an agreement with the United States on the tariffs on electric vehicles and other products to China.

The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Canada said in a statement that on August 26, the Canadian government, despite China's repeated opposition and solemn representations, stubbornly announced the imposition of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to this.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to Canada

The spokesperson said that the move by the Canadian side is a typical act of trade protectionism and political dominance, in disregard of WTO rules, and inconsistent with the position of the Canadian side as an advocate of global free trade and combating climate change. Such a move will undermine the normal economic and trade cooperation between China and Canada, harm the interests of Canadian consumers and businesses, and undermine Canada's green transformation and global efforts to tackle climate change. It is nothing but harmful to others.

The spokesperson stressed that the rapid development of China's electric vehicles, which rely on continuous technological innovation, a sound production and supply chain system and sufficient market competition, is the result of the joint action of comparative advantages and market laws, rather than relying on subsidies to achieve competitive advantages. The Canadian side's accusation of China's so-called "overcapacity" is groundless. The development of China's electric vehicle industry has made positive contributions to the world's response to climate change and the realization of green energy transformation.

China urges the Canadian side to respect objective facts, abide by WTO rules, immediately correct its wrong practices and refrain from politicizing economic and trade issues. China will take all necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
