CMA CGM AIR CARGO launches the first air transpacific route
On August 25, CMA CGM AIR CARGO launched its first trans-Pacific route, with its first commercial flight from Hong Kong (HKG) to Chicago (ORD).
The delivery of the new B777-200F aircraft, operated by Atlas Air, will play a key role in the strategic route expansion of the CMA CGM air cargo network, serving airports including Hong Kong, Chicago and Seoul.
Cma CGM said the aircraft could cross the Pacific Ocean, connecting Asia and North America and opening the way for further development in the United States. This milestone marks a significant step forward in CMA CGM Cargo's global business strategy and aligns perfectly with the Group's goal of providing a full range of solutions to its customers.
Two more B777-200F aircraft will be delivered in the future, further enhancing the airline's capacity.
It is understood that the second B777-200F will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2024 and will be deployed on the trans-Pacific route connecting the Chinese mainland and North America. With the deployment of these two Boeing aircraft, CMA Marine Air Cargo customers will benefit from a total of seven trans-Pacific flights per week.
In 2025, a third aircraft will strengthen the fleet by expanding its reach and capacity available to customers. Two Boeing 777-200F aircraft operated by CMA CGM AIR CARGO, based at the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) hub, have been serving routes between Europe and Greater China since 2022, with five weekly flights to Hong Kong and four weekly flights to Shanghai.
Damien Mazaudier, Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM Cargo, said: "The launch of this new route between Chicago and Hong Kong is a strategic milestone in the history of CMA CGM Cargo. The United States is one of the strategic priorities of the CMA CGM Group and we are proud to expand the CMA CMA Cargo network to the United States. The opening of the new route was facilitated by the delivery of the third B777 freighter in the fleet. This is a highly efficient long-range freighter, allowing us to open new trans-Pacific routes for our customers while also being able to cope with a volatile market." This new asset is also key in promoting sustainable development in the air cargo sector and perfectly aligns with CMA CGM's long-standing objectives."
