MSC took over four container ships owned by Chinese liner Anfu Shipping
Recently, Safetrans Line, the world's 50th largest shipping capacity, registered in Hong Kong, China and a new player in the Russia-focused liner market, has sold all four of its container ships for cash.

And the buyer who took over is the super buyer of the global shipping market -MSC Mediterranean Shipping!

It is understood that the four owned container ships sold by Safetrans Line are: SFT Egypt (IMO: 9253296), SFT China (IMO: 923211), SFT Saudi (IMO: 9224324) and SFT Turkey (IMO:9238753)

Shipping analysis consultancy Linerlytica pointed out in the latest report that although the specific transaction price of the four containers was not disclosed, it is expected that the sale will bring Safetrans Line an average of $20 million per ship, a total of about $80 million in profits.

The buyer, MSC Mediterranean Shipping, took delivery of two of the vessels in August: SFT Egypt and SFT China, which were renamed MSC Banjul IV and MSC Tia V, respectively.

SFT Turkey round

The other two vessels -SFT Saudi and SFT Turkey - are also expected to be handed over to MSC in September.

Through this acquisition, Mediterranean Shipping MSC, currently ranked first in the world, has a fleet of more than 6 million TEUs, further expanding its leading position over competitors, the industry generally believes that the second-hand ship market crazy bet on Mediterranean shipping MSC, It is building capacity reserves for independent operation after the dissolution of the 2M alliance with Maersk Line in 2025.

In contrast, Safetrans Line, which sold four container ships, although it sold only four container ships, the Chinese liner company still holds five chartered ships (total capacity 13,116 TEU, as of today's Alphaliner data), and plans to charter more small container ships. Continued liner service between China, Russia and the Red Sea.

According to the latest report from Linerlytica, a shipping analysis consultancy, Safetrans Line received 2,838 TEU of "Hua Da 610" from Xiamen Xinhuada in August. Received the 2,070 TEU Xin Yong Chang 19 from Shishi Yongyi Shipping, both of which were deployed on China's domestic trade routes before the acquisition.

Public information shows that Safetrans Line first appeared on the market in 2022, filling the gap left by major shipping operators in the Russian route (after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, international sanctions caused many liner companies to withdraw from the Russian market).

Notably, this year, another Singapore-registered new player, Sea Legend Shipping, began services to the Red Sea, filling a gap in the market after Houthi attacks caused many shipping companies to stop passing through the Bab el-Mandab Strait area. Sea Legend's use of the SFT prefix for its shipping services has sparked speculation about the link between the two shipping companies.
