305 containers were damaged and MSC container ships were hit by bad weather
On 28 August, MSC Antonia (IMO: 9398216), a 69,699-TEU container ship operated by MSC, encountered bad weather while sailing about 29 nautical miles northeast of St. John's Port in South Africa.

The route originally went through the Suez Canal to the East of the United States, in order to avoid the Red Sea attack and chose to circumnavigate the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, and unfortunately dropped the container due to bad weather during the voyage. The accident caused 46 containers overboard missing, another 305 containers were damaged, the ship was sailing from the Sri Lanka port of Colombo to the United States port of New York.

After the incident, SAMSA quickly issued a navigational warning to all vessels in the affected waters to ensure the safety of navigation. MSC Antonia arrived safely in the Port of Cape Town, South Africa, on 30 August to undergo a thorough assessment and necessary repairs to ensure the safety of subsequent voyages.

A five-hour aerial search by an insurance company in the Eastern Cape Wild Coast region reportedly found about 20 floating containers, but the South African Maritime Safety Authority said it could not confirm their ownership.

The MSC Antonia, built in 2009 with a total container capacity of 6969TEU, flies the Liberian flag and is currently deployed by MSC on the INDUS EXPRESS route between India and the US East.

This is the third ship to lose containers in bad weather while sailing in southern Africa since July, just on July 9, the CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin lost 44 containers in bad weather off the coast of South Africa; On August 15, the CMA CGM Belem lost 99 containers off the coast of South Africa.
