The latest data released by Alphaliner shows that as of September 15, 2024, the total number of container ships in operation worldwide reached 7,099, an increase of 52 from a month ago (the same below), with a total global capacity of 30,749,792TEU, an increase of 310,000 TEU.
In terms of the ranking of the top 20 liner companies, the rankings of X-Press Feeders Group and Haifeng International were exchanged, respectively, at 13th and 14th, while the rankings of Singapore Sea Link Shipping and Koryo Shipping were exchanged, respectively, at 15th and 16th.

In terms of specific shipping capacity, among the top 20 liner companies, only Changjin Merchant Marine's total operating capacity decreased by 342TEU, Koryo Shipping remained unchanged, and other companies increased.
Among them, Hapag-Lloyd's total operating capacity increased by 71,131TEU to 2,247,064TEU and its operating vessels increased by 6; Mediterranean Shipping (MSC) increased total capacity by 67,438TEU to 6,095,955TEU, with nine more vessels in operation; The total capacity of the Singapore Sea Link increased by 28,005TEU to 172,642TEU and the number of vessels in operation increased by 11; Cosco's total capacity increased by 26,306TEU to 3,264,411TEU.
Great changes have been made in new shipbuilding. MSC's ordered capacity increased by 593,998TEU and ordered vessels increased by 31 to 130; Cosco Maritime Control added 153,908TEU and ordered 11 more ships. Wan Hai Shipping increased by 117,342TEU and ordered vessels increased by 15; Maersk added 68,728TEU and four more ships on order; Pil increased by 57,908TEU and the number of ships ordered increased by 4.
