The Gemini Cooperation finalized the continuation of the Cape of Good Hope in 2025
Based on the current situation in the Red Sea region, we have jointly decided to activate the Cape of Good Hope service Network from February 2025, taking into account the safety and well-being of seafarers, as well as the safety of ships and cargo.

It is worth noting that as early as September 10, Hapa-Lloyd released two sets of Gemini maritime planning, one is through the Red Sea/Suez Canal route, the second is around the Cape of Good Hope, which also means that the Red Sea region will return to the Red Sea after the return of security.

The Gemini Cape Network consists of 29 backbone service lines supported by 28 regional shuttle services, and the entire network consists of approximately 340 vessels with a total capacity of 3.7 million TEU.

Hapag-lloyd said that once the Gemini collaboration is fully implemented, it will ensure extensive port coverage and industry-leading schedule reliability of more than 90 percent.

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd chose to circumnavigate the Cape of Good Hope as the only viable option based on a number of considerations, mainly due to the ongoing security issues in the Red Sea region. Both sides have publicly stated on many occasions that the safety of the crew will always be the top priority and guiding principle, and once the situation in the Red Sea eases, they will return to the Red Sea route.
