Australia's two major ports will go on strike for seven days

Australia's two major ports will go on strike for seven days

The strike comes in the context of negotiations between trade union Qube and the Australian Maritime Union (MUA).

The strike action included several measures aimed at disrupting normal operations, including an eight-hour stoppage while ships were moored. Work is carried out only in eight-hour shifts starting at 07:00, 15:00 or 23:00 and cannot be changed once the start time has been specified.

Additional restrictions include a ban on Class 5, 6 or 7 work, limiting the speed of motor transport and ro-ro operations on the dock to 15 km/h, and a ban on workers moving between berths and yards once they have been assigned to work, local sources said.

In addition to other measures related to shift extension and working during breaks, there will be a one-hour stoppage at 05:30, 13:30 and 21:30 each day.

Container handling operations carried out by union members will be interrupted during the strike.

In addition, Brisbane's Patrick Terminal has also announced the closure of terminal infrastructure and systems maintenance between 0700 and 2300 local time on Tuesday, November 5.

Kuehne & Nagel warned that container delivery and pick-up schedules could be affected during these times.
