New changes in the capacity table, Maersk ranked second
Data released by Alphaliner shows that as of November 8, 2024, the total number of container ships in operation worldwide reached 7,156, an increase of 37 from a month ago (the same below), with a total global capacity of 31,138,825TEU, an increase of 268,884TEU, and a total operating tonnage of 369,239,678 DWT.

In terms of the ranking of the top 20 liner companies, Singapore Sea Link Shipping rose two places to 13th, X-Press Feeders and Hafong International fell one place each to 14th and 15th, respectively, and UniFeeder and Koryo Shipping switched ranks to 16th and 17th respectively.

In terms of specific capacity, the total shipping capacity of the Mediterranean increased by 78,430TEU and the number of vessels in operation increased by 8. Maersk's total capacity increased by 38,022TEU and two more vessels in operation; Hapag-lloyd's total capacity increased by 36,218TEU and three more vessels in operation; Evergreen Shipping increased its total capacity by 35,718TEU and two more vessels in operation; Pil benefited from the recent delivery of a number of new vessels, increasing total capacity by 21,092TEU and adding two vessels in operation.

In addition, the total capacity of liner companies such as Ocean Network Link Shipping (ONE), COSCO Shipping, and UniFeeder has also increased.


Maersk ranks second in capacity


In terms of companies with reduced capacity, the total capacity of the CMA CGM Group was reduced by 18,425TEU and the number of vessels in operation was reduced by 2. The capacity of Koryo Shipping, Yangmyeong Shipping, Manhae Shipping and Haepong International has also been reduced.

In terms of new shipbuilding, the biggest bright spot comes from Hapag-Lloyd. Compared with a month ago, its ordered capacity increased by 288,336TEU and 23 ships; Cosco Shipping's ordered capacity increased by 142,712TEU and ordered by 11 ships; An increase of 128,000TEU and 8 ships were ordered for Wan Hai shipping; Cma CGM's ordered capacity increased by 122,533TEU, bringing the number of ships ordered to 81.

In addition, Maersk, PIL, X-Press Feeders and other liner companies have also increased their order capacity.
