The Houthis attacked a U.S. destroyer and three U.S. supply ships
On December 1, local time, Yemen's Houthi armed forces announced a special military operation, using missiles and drones to attack a US destroyer and three US military supply ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.
Yahya Saria, a spokesman for the Houthis, said on Sunday that the ships attacked were the Liberty Grace, the Maersk Saratoga and the Stena Impeccable. It launched 16 ballistic and cruise missiles and carried out the operation using drones in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.
"The attack did not result in any injuries or damage to any civilian or U.S. military vessels," it said.
According to the statement, the destroyer "successfully intercepted and destroyed three anti-ship ballistic missiles, three attack unmanned aerial vehicles, and one anti-ship cruise missile."
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said its destroyers, the Stockdale and O 'Kane, destroyed three anti-ship ballistic missiles, three drones and an anti-ship cruise missile to protect the three commercial ships that were attacked. It was not immediately clear if the ships were suspended as a result of the attack.
In a separate incident, the UK Maritime and Trade Organisation (UKMTO) reported an attack at 9:32 am UTC on 1 December, approximately 80 miles south of Aden. The UKMTO has issued a warning to ships in the area to proceed with caution.
