Gemini Alliance new layout, 59 services covering seven routes

The Gemini alliance, which officially took bookings last week, has a network of 59 mainlines and shuttle services across seven routes. Hapag-Lloyd decided to cancel the CGX service, which will free up 10 3,000-9,000 TEU vessels. Earlier, the company had just made adjustments to the CGX route.

A spokesman for Hapag-Lloyd said: "Network adjustments are part of our day-to-day operations and are designed to continually meet customer needs." In response to rumors that the Gemini Alliance may lack ships, the spokesperson stressed: "The phased implementation of the alliance network is well planned and we have enough ships to meet operational needs."

Ship resource optimization ensures stable operation of the alliance

While consultancy Linerlytica noted that Gemini had a number of stoppages in its February schedule, which could reflect tight ship resources, Hapag-Lloyd said it had identified 345 required ships, It is in THE final stages of implementing the switch of the original THE Alliance (renamed Premier Alliance) service to the Gemini network.

In addition, Hapag-Lloyd recently renewed some of its vessel charter agreements, including a five-year renewal with SFL of the 15,440 TEU Vancouver Express built in 2014 at a daily rate of $49,250. And the lease of Sealift's 3,739 TEU LTC John UD Page for approximately 30 months at a daily rate of $31,000.

Industry impact and outlook

The cancellation of the CGX service marks the flexibility of Hapag-Lloyd and its partners to adjust in response to market changes and alliance integration. With the full implementation of the Gemini Alliance, this strategic initiative will lay the foundation for optimizing resource allocation and improving operational efficiency, while helping the alliance address competition and challenges in the global shipping market.
