The bulk carrier True Confidence that was attacked by the Houthis has been dismantled by its owner
The True Confidence, a super-mobile bulk carrier attacked by the Houthis earlier this year, has been dismantled by its owner, according to ship brokers.

The True Confidence vessel (50,400 DWT, built in 2011) has been sold "as is" by Third January Maritime to a United Arab Emirates scrapping company, with details of the price and destination of the scrapping not disclosed.

On March 6, the True Confidence caught fire after being attacked by Houthi forces about 50 nautical miles off the coast of Aden, Yemen, killing three crew members and severely burning at least four others. Images released by the U.S. Central Command showed what appeared to be the ship's living quarters and bridge.

After the crew was evacuated, True Confidence was abandoned in severe damage and was eventually towed by a tugboat to UAE waters, where it remains to this day. The Houthis claimed to have attacked the ship because of its ties to Oaktree Capital Management, a U.S.-based firm, but it was later revealed that the ship's owner was based in Greece.

The Equasis database shows that the True Confidence vessel was registered as OCM Maritime between 2021 and February 2024. On February 23 this year, the ship's owner changed to True Confidence Shipping, while the ship's operator remained Greek shipping company Third January Maritime.

Following the dismantling of True Confidence, Third January Maritime's fleet will be left with two ultra-portable bulk carriers and two portable bulk carriers.
