AD Ports, which was awarded a 30-year renewable concession in June 2023, said at the time that it expected to invest about $220 million in the first phase of the project to build a quay wall with a water depth of 16 meters and a length of 400 meters, as well as a 10-hectare logistics area.

Under the shareholder agreement signed by the two parties, a joint venture, majority owned by ABU Dhabi Ports Group, will be established to develop, manage and operate the New East Mole multi-purpose terminal at Pointe Noire Port. The terminal can handle containers, bulk cargo and other types of cargo and is one of the largest Atlantic ports in the Central African country.

Pointe-noire is the second largest city in the Republic of Congo, located in the southwest of the country and facing the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Cape Noire Port is one of the main ports of the West African route, and is also an important transit port in West Africa.

Sungreen Logistics understands that the joint venture will be majority-owned by AD Ports, which will retain control in the management and operation of the terminal. Operate as a multi-user facility and will handle containers, bulk and general cargo.

Christine Cabau Woehrel, Executive Vice President, Assets and Operations, CMA CGM, said: "This investment in Pointe Noire marks a new milestone in our strategic partnership. We look forward to bringing more operational and economic benefits to the Republic of Congo and its importers and exporters."

Mohamed Eidha Al Menhali, Regional CEO of ABU Dhabi Ports Group, believes: "The new multi-purpose terminal will help Pointe Noire become a trade and business hub in the region, increasing employment opportunities and connecting the Republic of Congo to global markets."

As a global player in the port and logistics chain, CMA CGM operates 60 port terminals in 30 countries. The Group supports supply chains in Central and West Africa through its modern fleet and terminal infrastructure, such as the Leki Deep Sea Port in Nigeria or the Kribi Container Terminal in Cameroon.
