The value of the deal was not disclosed. With the support of Medlog's new investment, Maritime Group will continue to operate under its current brand and its management team, led by John Williams, will remain unchanged.

MSC Chief Executive Søren Toft said: "As we expand our footprint in the UK, this acquisition marks an exciting new chapter, combining Maritime Group's wealth of knowledge with Medlog's expertise."

"Special thanks to John Williams and the entire Maritime Group team for their continued leadership and dedication. I look forward to future growth and success together."

Maritime Group has been in business for 23 years, specialising in UK road and rail freight, with 3,000 employees and 41 locations.

John Williams, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maritime Group, said: "It is very exciting to be part of an independent global logistics organisation to secure the long-term future of the business, with Medlog able to provide the ongoing investment that will help us develop our exciting corporate growth plans for all our stakeholders. Giuseppe Prudente, Chairman of Medlog, said: "We are delighted to be expanding our logistics footprint in the UK. Medlog specializes in multimodal transport and provides solutions in more than 80 countries. Maritime Group's wealth of knowledge, combined with Medlog's investment and expertise, will drive continued innovation in the UK's future logistics infrastructure in a way that is consistent with our values and respect for the environment."

MSC has been in the freight forwarding market for over thirty years through Medlog

In short, in recent years, MSC, while carrying out crazy capacity expansion, is more keen to "build large-scale logistics business and provide a comprehensive supply chain" service provider transformation. In fact, Medlog was founded in 1988, and MSC has been in the freight forwarding market for more than three decades through Medlog.

In October 2023, MSC acquired a 50% stake in Italo, the Italian high-speed rail operator. It also recently acquired 50% of the freight business of Renfe, the rail freight subsidiary of the Spanish rail company Group.

In November 2023, MSC and Ferrovie dello Stato, the Italian rail operator, announced that they would form a new joint venture to design, build and operate new freight terminals at sites controlled by both groups in Italy.

In particular, in September 2023, MSC signed an agreement to acquire the German Port and logistics company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), and will hold 49.9% of HHLA shares upon completion of the acquisition.

As a traditional family business controlled by the Aponte family, MSC does not disclose financial data and corporate strategy to the public, so it is also known as the most mysterious liner company in the industry.

MSC's series of major initiatives in recent years not only show that under the leadership of Captain Gianluigi Aponte, MSC has continued to invest in shipping and continue to adhere to the original intention of becoming an ocean shipping company. Moreover, in a market environment full of uncertainty, through acquisition and vertical expansion, it offers pioneering air, sea and land freight and logistics solutions, strives to continuously improve the resilience and reliability of the supply chain, and ensures its ambition to be a long-term partner for its customers.
