Ferry operator DFDS acquires Turkish Logistics company Ekol Logistics
On November 15, ferry operator DFDS announced the completion of the acquisition of Turkish Logistics company Ekol Logistics.
The acquisition is based on a set of revised terms agreed upon since the termination of the share purchase agreement on November 1, 2024. The main change in terms relates to the amount of debt included in the transaction. In addition, DFDS now has the option to extend the term of its terminal agreement with the Port of Yalova.
The acquisition will replicate DFDS 'ferry/road business model to the Mediterranean region and connect Turkey to DFDS' existing logistics network, a strategy focused on moving cargo by ferry, road and rail primarily by trailer and providing complementary logistics solutions.
Ekol Logistics has its own offices and facilities in 10 European countries and transports goods between Turkey and Europe. More than half of the company's transport services are multimodal, combining road, ferry and rail, making it the largest customer of DFDS 'Mediterranean ferry route network.
Ahmet Musul, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ekol Logistics, said: "The strategic logic of selling Ekol Logistics' international transport network to DFDS is compelling. So on behalf of all my wonderful colleagues, I am very pleased that we have come together again and reached a revised agreement, and a new growth story can begin."
Torben Carlsen, CEO of DFDS, said: "DFDS 'acquisition of Ekol's international transport network significantly enhances our ability to provide reliable and efficient transport infrastructure, thereby supporting Turkey's continued growth as a manufacturing hub. Given the revised terms, the carefully developed business plan and the strength of our expanded network, we are well positioned to protect and grow our Mediterranean business."
