Freight forwarders warn that more French ports will be involved in strikes throughout February
On February 5, freight forwarding giant Kuehne & Nagel issued a warning on its official website that French ports are at risk of business disruption due to ongoing strikes. Kuehne & Nagel stressed that more French ports will be involved in strikes throughout February, which will have a significant impact on the economy.

French port strike

In fact, on January 30-31, French ports experienced a 48-hour strike. The dockers plan to go on strike in February from 10:00 to 16:00 local time on February 10, February 12, February 14, February 18, February 20 and February 24, in addition to a 48-hour strike on February 26 and February 28. Kuehne & Nagel said the strike would affect container ports across France.

The strike was triggered by protests by dockworkers at France's main ports over state pension reforms.

Some industry insiders said that the strike will lead to the disruption of the local collection and distribution system, increasing the risk of traffic congestion. If strikes at French ports are frequent, ships may be diverted to other northern European ports.

Cargo owners and freight forwarders who have recently shipped to France should timely understand the local port dynamics and respond well in advance.
