Gemini Alliance first voyage to Yangshan Deep Water Port
At 11 o 'clock on February 10, the first container was slowly lifted onto the "Emma Maersk" ship at the Phase III terminal of Shanghai Ocean Hill Port, and the global shipping industry ushered in a milestone event - the "Gemini" shipping alliance jointly formed by Denmark Maersk and Germany Hapag-Lloyd officially operated in Shanghai Port.
At present, the international shipping pattern is being deeply restructured, and the Port of Shanghai, as the global core hub port, will take "efficiency first" as the goal, gather strength to strengthen the main business, do excellent services, and join hands with shipping companies to create a new benchmark of efficiency and service in the port and shipping industry.
Improve the on-time rate: let the giant ship from "station stop" to "station car"
Shipping alliance is a kind of alliance formed by liner companies to realize mutual assistance and resource sharing in route, port, shipping schedule, shipping space, storage yard, inland logistics system and other aspects. The Gemini alliance is formed by Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd Line. In the future, the two companies will invest a total of 340 vessels (about 3.7 million TEU capacity) to participate in the operation of the Marine service network consisting of 29 trunk lines and 30 flexible shuttle lines, with the goal of achieving more than 90% liner on-time rate.
This deep integration, based on the existing shipping resources and capacity networks of the two parties, will comprehensively improve the quality of shipping services and operational efficiency, greatly optimize operating costs by integrating owned vessels, terminals and feeder vessels, and achieve extensive port coverage. On the one hand, the new model allows ultra-large container ships to only attach to major hub ports in the world, so that giant ships from "station stop" to "station car", and improve the on-time rate of ships; On the other hand, the direct flight routes connecting the hub ports will be increased, so that the goods from the large hub ports can reach the feeder ports and destination ports faster through the "water and water transfer".
"The choice of Shanghai port as one of Gemini's hub ports is based on its world-class port efficiency, digital capabilities and strong confidence in the Chinese market," said Anso Koh, president of Maersk Asia Pacific Operations Center, at the ceremony. As the world's leading super port in container throughput for 15 consecutive years, the cooperation between Shanghai Port and "Gemini" will further enhance the density of its international route network, ensure the "Gemini" network "ship punctuality", and provide "exceeding expectations" logistics support for global customers.
Experts: Push global shipping from scale competition to efficiency competition
"Sipg will shoulder the mission of being the main force in the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center. With the vision of 'building a world-class port operator', SIPG will continue to improve the hub level and service level of Shanghai Port, and contribute more and better 'Chinese solutions' to the high-quality development of the global shipping industry." Sipg production business department deputy general manager Zhou Yong said. He revealed that the Group will, through cooperation with Gemini, combine its own digital, intelligent and green transformation and development, strengthen and improve the important functions of port international transit and empty container transportation, and do a good job in the development of key businesses such as coastal piggy-back and international transit collection.
Industry analysts believe that the birth of "Gemini" collaboration will break the traditional shipping pattern. Experts from Shanghai International Shipping Research Center pointed out: "The essence of the cooperation between Shanghai Port and Gemini is to promote global shipping from 'scale competition' to 'efficiency competition' through 'data sharing and standard co-construction' between ports and shipping operators."
In order to meet the needs of the new mode in terms of customs clearance time, port inspection units such as Yangshan Border Inspection Station of Shanghai Border Inspection Station improve the on-time rate of liner with high efficiency of customs clearance. Before the ship berthing, the border inspection authorities contact the port area, agents, pilotage and other units in advance, formulate the "one ship, one policy" customs clearance guarantee plan, and check the declaration information through the "single window for international trade", complete the ship entry pre-inspection procedures, and ensure that the ship can start work after berthing. After a ship has docked at the port, the border inspection authorities actively respond to the needs of shipowners, cargo owners and navigation repair personnel on and off the ship, issue permits on and off the ship in a timely manner, meet the needs of cargo handover, transfer and subsequent navigation of the ship, and use cutting-edge equipment such as mobile inspection and release vehicles to handle immigration border inspection procedures and crew shift change procedures at the ship's ladder, reducing personnel travel and facilitating procedures.
Zhang Yunchao, deputy captain of the second duty team of Yangshan Border Inspection Station, said, "Yangshan Port has a large number of ships and a long waterfront, and we have done information research and judgment in advance to truly achieve 'zero delay' and 'zero waiting' for customs clearance."
