Trump will impose tariffs of about 25 percent on imported cars
On February 18, local time, US President Trump said that he would impose a tariff of about 25% on cars imported into the United States, and he would make more statements on this topic on April 2.
Trump has long stressed that American cars are treated unfairly in foreign markets, such as the European Union's 10 percent tariff on car imports, which is four times the tariff on passenger cars in the United States. However, Reuters also mentioned that the United States has imposed a 25 percent tariff on highly profitable imported pickup trucks.
In addition to automobiles, Trump also said on the 18th that April may also begin to impose 25% tariffs on the pharmaceutical and semiconductor chip industries, and raise some in the following year.
Not long ago, Trump signed a memorandum requiring relevant departments to determine "reciprocal tariffs" with each foreign trading partner. So-called "reciprocal tariffs" mean that the United States imposes tariffs on imports at the same level as its trading partners do on American goods.
