Europe's largest port, Rotterdam, is suffering chronic congestion due to strikes, equipment shortages and other factors.

By June, several shipping companies had cancelled calls to Rotterdam

In addition, due to severe port congestion, a number of shipping companies, including MSC and CMA CGM, have had to adjust their routes to avoid this important European logistics hub.

According to shipping intelligence agency DynaLiners, Mediterranean Shipping (MSC) and CMA CGM have decided to temporarily remove the Port of Rotterdam from their jointly operated Nordic-Australia routes, called NEMO and Australia Express respectively, until at least early June.

The port rotation after adjustment is as follows:
London, United Kingdom - Hamburg, Germany - Antwerp, Belgium - Le Havre, France - Valencia, Spain - La Spezia, Italy - Marseille, France - Reunion Island, France - Port Louis, Mauritius - Sydney, Australia - Melbourne, Australia - Adelaide, Australia - Fremantle, Australia - Singapore - Ennor, India - Colombo, Sri Lanka - London, United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the Ocean Alliance, which comprises CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping, Evergreen Shipping and OOCL, has taken similar steps.

On a route connecting European ports to markets in the Far East, Ocean Alliance has decided to replace the port of Rotterdam with the port of Southampton in the UK.

The Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and one of the most important logistics hubs in the world.

In recent years, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and Russia-Ukraine conflict, the global shipping market has continued to be volatile, and the problem of port congestion has become increasingly serious. The Port of Rotterdam is no exception, with a large number of ships queuing to enter the port and a mountain of cargo at the dock, resulting in a significant decline in the efficiency of port operations.

At present, the global shipping market is still facing many challenges, and the port congestion problem is difficult to be completely solved in the short term. Shipping companies are likely to continue adjusting routes to deal with the uncertainty caused by port congestion.
