SeaSearcher rates congestion at Port Klang as moderate, with 77 ships currently docked at Malaysian ports. This is the third monsoon peak so far in 2025 and is an unusual weather phenomenon. The monsoon in Southeast Asia tends to be strongest during the early stages of the Northeast monsoon season from December to January. On average, Southeast Asia experiences up to four monsoon surges per year, each lasting one to five days.

On March 19, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore issued a notice advising ship owners to remain vigilant during the monsoon surge.

The Maritime and Port Authority noted that as heavy showers and strong winds are expected, vessels must maintain proper safety at sea at all times.
