All ports in Japan are on strike and there will be another 48-hour strike at the end of April
The National Federation of Port Labor Unions of Japan announced that starting from 0:00 on April 20th, a 24-hour strike would be carried out at all ports in Japan. In addition, a 48-hour strike will take place from 0:00 on April 26th to 24:00 on April 27th.
At a recent press conference held by the labor side, the labor side disclosed that as the negotiations with the management side have not made progress, they will consider implementing a regular strike or a long-term strike in the future depending on the situation.
A relevant person said, "We do not want chaos in logistics, but achieving an increase in workers' wages through reasonable cost transfer is beneficial to the overall logistics in Japan."
Given the escalation of labor disputes at Japanese ports, it is expected that strike activities will occur frequently and involve large scales and long duration. Freight forwarders and consignors that have recently exported goods to Japan need to pay special attention to the development of the situation, promptly formulate contingency plans and reasonably arrange the shipment.
