China's Yangpu port container throughput exceeded one million TEU
In the first half of this year, the container throughput of Yangpu Port reached 10.15 million TEU, an increase of 11.26% year-on-year. This is the first time that the container throughput of Yangpu Port in half a year has exceeded 1 million TEUs, ranking among the top 20 major ports in the country.
The "password" for container throughput growth
Yangpu International Container Terminal is the busiest terminal in Yangpu Port. On the morning of July 11, the collection trucks in the terminal shuttled back and forth, and the shore bridge, under the control of the operator, kept lifting the containers on the collection trucks and loading them onto the freighters.
"In the first half of this year, the container throughput of our terminal was 936,300 TEU, an increase of 18.71% over the same period last year. The local heavy container volume increased steadily, and a total of 161,900 TEU was completed, an increase of 28% over the same period last year, accounting for 74% of the heavy container market share in Danzhou Yangpu." Said Xu Linxiang, deputy general manager of production operation center of Hainan Port International Port Co., LTD.
What is the "password" for digital growth?
"Mainly in the first half of this year, we opened two new routes, one is the domestic trade route from Yangpu Port to Shenzhen (Dafa Bay), the other is the foreign trade route from Yangpu Port to Khalifa Port in ABU Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, especially the opening of Yangpu Port to Khalifa Port in ABU Dhabi, opening up the Hainan Free Trade Port direct freight channel to the Middle East. It provides more convenient transportation services for the import and export of goods in Hainan." Xu Linxiang introduced, "In addition, through cooperation with shipping companies in foreign trade near-ocean routes, we effectively expand the port radiation range, and then guide Hainan local cargo return to form heavy containers."
In addition, Hainan Port & Shipping International Port Co., Ltd. has also cooperated with customs, maritime, border defense, shipping companies, agency companies and other units to achieve 24-hour booking customs clearance mode, and further improve the quality and efficiency of port services. Through data intelligence, the barge business management system was enabled, and the main business such as barge booking and foreign trade unpacking was handled online, further improving the production efficiency.
Direct routes facilitate trade in goods
Outside the warehouse of Hainan Yisheng Petrochemical Co., trucks line up to pull containers loaded with bottle-grade polyester chips to Yangpu International Container Terminal.
"After the opening of the direct route from Yangpu to the Middle East, our company's products can be directly shipped to the Middle East region, instead of shipping to Shenzhen or Hong Kong and then transshipment, so that our transportation costs can be reduced by about 12%." Hainan Yisheng petrochemical Co., Ltd. foreign trade logistics manager Pan Yaping said.
It is understood that the export products of Hainan Yisheng Petrochemical Co., Ltd. are mainly bottle-grade polyester chips, which are exported to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and other regions.
According to industry insiders, the cargo from Yangpu to the port of Shenzhen or Hong Kong, then transferred to the Middle East, the entire shipping period of 22 days to 25 days, while the direct shipping period of Yangpu port to ABU Dhabi Khalifa port is only 13 days to 15 days, which is more than 10 days shorter than the shipping period of transshipment to Shenzhen and Hong Kong and then to ABU Dhabi. The shortening of the voyage time means that the transportation cost is greatly reduced, so the enterprise benefits a lot.
The opening of the direct route from Yangpu to the Middle East will not only meet the transportation needs of Hainan's local goods exported to the Middle East, but also further guide the transit sources of neighboring ports to the Middle East and other ocean-going trunk lines in the future by relying on Southeast Asia and domestic and foreign trade co-ship route network, expand the maritime hinterland market of the port, and further enhance the status of Yangpu regional container hub port.
Similarly, after the opening of the direct flight route from Yangpu to Shenzhen (Dachao Bay), Hainan's local production of pulp and paper, petrochemical, coconut products, grain and oil products, no longer need to transit through Guangzhou Nansha Port when they are sent to Shenzhen, logistics is more efficient and convenient, and the transportation cost of enterprises is also significantly reduced. According to the statistics of Hainan Port and Shipping International Port Co., LTD., major goods such as chemical products, paper products and coconuts produced locally in Hainan account for 70% of the local import and export volume.
With the opening of two routes from Yangpu to ABU Dhabi and from Yangpu to Shenzhen, Yangpu has 47 domestic and foreign trade routes, of which 23 are domestic trade routes and 24 are foreign trade routes, basically covering the main coastal ports in China and Southeast Asia, and reaching West Asia, the Indian Ocean, Oceania, West Africa and South America. This year, Yangpu plans to open a Japan-South Korea route to cover the East Asian market.
Be the "setter" of a good enterprise
In addition to the increase in routes, the considerate service of local governments is also the reason for the increase in cargo.
In recent years, Danzhou Yangpu's import and export of goods trade has been ranked first in the province. In the first five months of this year, its imports and exports of goods reached 53.95 billion yuan, an increase of 23.5%, accounting for 49.7% of the total import and export value of Hainan in the same period, accounting for almost half of the province's imports and exports of goods.
In order to promote the steady growth of foreign trade, the Yangpu Bureau of Transport and Port and Navigation actively act as the "second hand" of enterprises, do a good job of analyzing and forecasting the import and export data of goods trade, docking key shipping enterprises at the first time, urging enterprises to pay close attention to the arrival and unloading of long-haul ships at the end of the month, ensuring that they are included in statistics, and strengthening statistical guidance for newly registered shipping enterprises in the near future to ensure that all indicators should be unified.
According to the data provided by the Yangpu Transport and Port Bureau, in the first half of 2024, in addition to the rapid growth of container throughput, the cargo throughput of Danzhou Yangpu reached 30.8725 million tons, an increase of 5.5% year-on-year; Water transport turnover was 500,654 billion tonne-kilometers, up 8.85% year on year.
"Our target for the whole year is to complete 60 million tons of cargo throughput, 2 million TEus of container throughput, and 1 trillion ton-kilometers of water transport turnover." Mengze, a staff member of the port logistics section of the Yangpu Transportation and Port and Navigation Bureau, said, "At present, more than half of the time has been completed, and more than half of the target tasks have been completed."
It takes a lot of effort to accomplish the goals and tasks for the whole year. The relevant person in charge of the Yangpu Transportation and Port and Navigation Bureau said that in the second half of the year, it will continue to guide enterprises to make good use of shipping policies such as "China Yangpu Port" registration port, continue to increase investment efforts, actively strive for new ship registration, guide stock enterprises to expand capacity, and lay a solid foundation for achieving the annual target and task.
