Shandong Weifang Xiti the country's first "zero carbon port"
On October 15, Shandong Bohai Bay Port Group Weifang Port won the "Carbon neutral Evaluation Certificate" issued by China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., LTD., proving that Weifang Port has achieved "carbon neutral" within the scope of the port, marking the country's first "zero carbon port" built in Weifang. This is the latest achievement of Shandong Port to accelerate the comprehensive green and low-carbon transformation of the port, and provides the "Shandong Port plan" for the construction of the national "zero carbon port".

Since the establishment of Shandong Port, it has continuously strengthened the top-level design, put the construction of "international leading smart green port" in the first place of the "Five international leading" development orientation, and taken the lead in the national port and shipping field to issue the "14th Five-Year Plan for Green and low-carbon ports" to promote the overall green and low-carbon transformation development. Energy consumption per 10,000 tons of throughput and carbon dioxide emissions have been significantly reduced compared with the establishment in 2019, and the proportion of clean energy in the port has increased from 49.5% to 62%, highlighting the green development.

Shandong port Weifang Port is located in the south coast of Bohai Bay, the coastline is 5382 meters long, is an important support for the economic and social development of Weifang City and its surrounding areas and the development of harbor industry. Li Haibo, director of the Energy Saving and Low Carbon Research Office of the Water Transport Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, believes that the overall scale of Weifang Port, moderate energy consumption, with rich Marine, wind, light and other resources, is a good test site for the construction of "zero carbon port".

Driven by the "double carbon" goal, Shandong Bohai Bay Port Group takes Weifang Port as a pilot, focusing on "adjusting structure, strengthening technology and emphasizing management". Focusing on the "eight tasks" of multi-energy complementary energy supply, optimization of energy consumption structure, application of energy efficiency improvement technology, improvement of automation and intelligence level, adjustment and optimization of transportation structure, synergistic efficiency of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, improvement of ecological carbon sink capacity, and improvement of low carbon management and control capacity, we will make every effort to build a "zero carbon port".
In March this year, Shandong port Weifang Port issued a "zero carbon port" creation plan, and China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. issued a committed carbon neutral certificate to Shandong Port Bohai Bay Port Group Weifang Port. In October, the port of Weifang in Shandong province completed the neutralization of total greenhouse gas emissions (9,010.62 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. evaluated the quantification and offsetting process of greenhouse gas emissions generated during the production and operation stage of Weifang Port from June 10, 2024 to September 10, 2024 according to PAS2060:2014 Carbon Neutrality Certification Code. The evaluation results met the requirements of the evaluation criteria. Awarded Shandong port Weifang port carbon neutral evaluation certificate.

New practice: wading out the win-win road of quality and efficiency improvement

The port is an important node of China's foreign trade, an important window for the construction of ecological civilization, and an important position for the realization of the "double carbon" goal. In the process of "zero carbon port" construction, Shandong port Weifang Port continues to promote the clean energy structure, and walks out of a win-win road of "carbon neutrality" and port quality and efficiency improvement.

It not only saves about 9.6 million yuan of electricity cost per year for Weifang Port, but also saves 21,000 tons of standard coal per year compared with conventional coal-fired thermal power units with the same power generation, reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 57,000 tons, reduces soot emissions by 1.5 tons, reduces other exhaust gases sulfur dioxide by 7.0 tons and nitrogen oxides by 10.5 tons, and has significant social and environmental benefits.

In addition to the wind power project, Weifang Port continues to promote the construction of wind and solar hydrogen multi-energy complementary system, orderly promote the construction of photovoltaic power generation system in the logistics storage warehouse, storage warehouse and other areas, built and put into use 3.3MWp photovoltaic power station, the annual power generation can reach 3.6132 million kWh; As one of the sub-topics of the "Hydrogen into 10,000" project of the major science and technology demonstration project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the designed daily hydrogenation capacity of Weifang Port Hydrogenation Station is 500kg, equipped with double hydrogen unloading column, double hydrogen refueling gun, 9m³ hydrogen storage cylinder group and a comprehensive station building, which can store 300kg compressed hydrogen every day, which can meet the hydrogen demand of 4 hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks in the port area. Strive to promote the "green hydrogen production, transport, storage and use of the whole industrial chain" project application demonstration.


Build a green corridor that integrates and empties Hong Kong


At the same time, Weifang Port is also fully promoting the replacement of port machinery and electric energy, and creating a green corridor. The new and scrapped port machinery gives priority to the use of electric equipment, and 46 charging piles are built in the port to fully meet the rapid charging needs of electric horizontal transport vehicles such as electric heavy trucks and mobile machinery in the port, and the annual electricity consumption exceeds 6 million KWH. On this basis, it is planned to achieve full electrification of port operations and supporting the construction of charging and replacing facilities by the end of 2025, with an annual increase of 4 million KWH of wind power consumption. The simultaneous implementation of the all-electric ice-breaking tug construction, distributed seawater desalination and other projects, and continue to improve the green electricity consumption capacity.

At present, Weifang Port has completed the initial construction of a multi-energy supply system, formed a zero-carbon energy structure of "landscape and storage integration", officially realized zero-carbon port 2.0(narrow zero-carbon port), and strives to take the lead in the industry to build a zero-carbon port 3.0 (broad zero-carbon port) characterized by "green and low-carbon development of the whole logistics chain". "Weifang Port first tried to build the country's first 'zero carbon port', which has a better guiding significance for other ports in the country to take the road of green and low-carbon." Li Haibo said.
