Korean Air's takeover of Asiana Airlines is approved by the United States

After four years of trying to acquire Asiana Airlines, Korean Air announced that it plans to participate in the private placement of Asiana Airlines next Wednesday (11), investing 1.5 trillion won (about HK $) to buy about 131.57 million shares, and will hold 63.9% of Korean Air shares.

Sungreen Logistics learned that Korean Air announced the start of the Asiana Airlines acquisition process in November 2020, and finally completed the acquisition process after four years. In January 2021, Korean Air submitted its merger application to competition authorities in 14 countries and regions, having received approval from 13 countries except the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Korean Air has reported to U.S. regulators that it received approval from the European Commission late last month, as well as Asiana Airlines' new share subscription plan. Because U.S. regulators oppose the merger by filing an antitrust lawsuit, if it does not raise objections by next Wednesday, it will be considered approval of the merger.
