Maersk operates vessels of 79,110TEU
Data released by Alphaliner shows that as of February 14, 2025, the total number of container ships in operation worldwide reached 7,255, an increase of 79 vessels from a month earlier (January 10, 2025, the same below), with a total global capacity of 31,734,048TEU, an increase of 232,636TEU. The total tonnage of vessels in operation is 376,152,630 deadweight tons.
In terms of specific operating capacity, 14 of the top 20 liner companies have increased their capacity, 5 have decreased, and 1 has remained flat.
Among them, Maersk's operating capacity increased the most, reaching 79,110TEU and adding 14 vessels in operation; Mediterranean shipping increased its operating capacity by 72,677TEU and added 9 vessels in operation; Hapag-lloyd increased by 23,518TEU and added two vessels in operation; Evergreen Marine increased by 19,625TEU with two more vessels in operation; Cma CGM increased by 15,556TEU and added three vessels in operation.
In terms of enterprises with reduced capacity, the operating capacity of Wanhai Shipping decreased by 14,458TEU and the number of operating vessels decreased by 5. Desxiang Shipping decreased by 10,535TEU and 2 vessels in operation; Cosco Shipping decreased by 7,018TEU, with a decrease of 2 vessels in operation; Koryo Shipping decreased by 4,636TEU or 1 vessel in operation; X-Press Feeders decreased by 1,689TEU but increased by 1 vessel in operation.
In terms of new shipbuilding, five companies have increased their order capacity. Among them, Evergreen Shipping added 10 vessels, 248,628TEU, CMA CGM added 9 vessels, 195,577TEU, Maersk added 11 vessels, 88,062TEU, Wanhai Shipping added 1 vessel, 22,835TEU, and Hainfeng International added 1 vessel, 2,577TEU.
